FLAT STEEL PRODUCTS
Flat steel products are a category of steel products that are characterized by their flat shape and rectangular cross-section. They are produced through a process called hot rolling, wherein a steel slab or billet is heated and passed through a series of rolling mills to achieve the desired thickness and shape.
Technically, mechanical engineering is the application of the principles and problem-solving techniques of engineering from design to manufacturing to the marketplace for any object. Mechanical engineers analyze their work using the principles of motion, energy, and force.
Flat steel products have a wide range of applications across various industries due to their versatility, strength, and formability. Some common examples of flat steel products include:
Hot-rolled coils: These are large rolls of steel that are produced directly from the hot rolling process. They are used in industries such as construction, automotive, and manufacturing for applications like structural components, pipes, and sheet metal.
Cold-rolled coils: These are hot-rolled coils that are further processed through cold rolling mills to achieve a smoother and thinner product. Cold-rolled coils have superior surface finish and dimensional accuracy and are commonly used in applications that require precise tolerances, such as automotive body panels, appliances, and electrical equipment.
Plates: Steel plates are flat steel products with a thickness greater than 6mm. They are widely used in the construction industry for building structures, bridges, and ships. Plates are also utilized in manufacturing heavy machinery and equipment.
Sheets: Steel sheets are thin, flat steel products with a thickness less than 6mm. They find applications in the production of appliances, containers, roofing, and general fabrication.
Galvanized steel: This is flat steel that has been coated with a layer of zinc to protect it from corrosion. Galvanized steel is commonly used in outdoor structures, roofing, and fencing.
Stainless steel: Flat stainless steel products are known for their corrosion resistance and are extensively used in the food processing, chemical, and medical industries. They are available in various forms such as sheets, coils, and plates.
